Menantico Sand Ponds Information
Location: Millville, NJ. Cumberland County
Size: 62 acres
Depth: Average 4 feet; Maximum 12 feet.
Ramp and Parking: Ramp built by State. Good incline, but usually covered with gravel from parking area and sometimes difficult to get up for tow vehicles without 4-wheel drive. Lots of parking space.
Motor Limits: Electric trolling motors only.
Rules & Regulations: As a designated NJ Wildlife Management Area, a WMA tournament permit is required to hold a tournament with more than four boats or more than nine fishermen.
Comments: A series of 8 ponds connected by narrow cuts. Can be like a maze for newcomers. As it is connected to the
Menantico Creek and Maurice River, it is tidal with small changes in water level during the day. Has a reputation for low to medium quantities of small bass. Very scenic as there are no roads or houses near the ponds. During high
water, it is possible to go downstream through the Menantico Creek (which enters & exits through the main pond) and reach additional ponds & eventually the Maurice River. There is some question about whether the NJ state record bass (10 lbs 14 oz) came out of this place or a nearby private pond also called Menantico or at a different place altogether.
Need for Morning Quiet?: No
Directions: Entrance road is on the south side of Route 49 east of Millville, about a mile and a half east of Route 55.
The entrance road is marked by a brown NJ WMA sign (parallel to the road). The one-lane entrance road was paved in 2011.
Club Record: 16" Largemouth Bass 6-9-2013 Layne Ell
23" Pickerel 6-9-2013 Chris Woltman
